Blessing of the Backpacks

Blessing of the backpacks: It’s that time of year when we start preparing to head back to school.  We
invite anyone who uses a backpack/bag in their school or work to bring it to worship on Sept. 5^th for the
ritual of the blessing of the backpacks.  You can place your backpack/bag on the table in the chancel before
worship, and pick it up after the service ends.  May the prayers of your church family give you strength and
courage as you face the coming school year, or work place.

Rally Day

Our kick-off to the new Sunday School year begins with Rally Day on September 12, 2010.  Meet us at 9:00 AM.
Parents, please register your children for the new Sunday School term when you arrive. There will be songs,
entertainment, and special guest – Kathy Long, Storyteller.  Stay after worship for a Potluck Luncheon in
celebration of Rally Day.  Bring your favorite covered dish meal, salad, or dessert to share with your church family
as we swing into the fall season. We hope to see you there!

Harvest Home

Harvest Home Sunday will be on September 19^th.  If you are interested in contributing to the display, please have
your canned goods and produce to the church by 9:00 AM on Saturday, September 18^th.  All proceeds from the
food sold after the service, and other donations, will be given to the local food bank.  See Catherine Gery or Carol
Moyer with questions.

Ryan's Tree - Child Bereavement Group

The next session will begin Sept. 30 (6 Thursdays, 6:30 - 8:15 PM) here at St. John’s Church.  Registration must
be made in advance.  Please call Bob Shrom at 484-241-8043 to enroll or inquire about volunteering.

Basket Social

This event will be held on October 2^nd, 10 AM to 2 PM.  We are looking for local business to donate gift
certificates, so if you know of anyone willing to do so, please let Jeanette Holtzhafer know.  A sign-up sheet
is in the narthex-any donations for baskets, basket items and/or monetary contributions is greatly appreciated.
